About me
Last time: I'm on the board of NYCC as "Webmaster". This year I'm running for Technology Director. For a single reason: to improve the club's website, and how the board runs it. Read it here.
I've spent thirty-plus years building digital systems in finance, payments, and insurance: systems that serve more than 100,000 users and move or manage billions of dollars. I've done the work as a developer, QA tester, product manager, UX designer, site reliability engineer, co-founder & CTO, and VP of engineering. I mention this as a means of establishing my bona fides; I've been doing this kind of work for a while and have deep and broad experience doing so.
My participation in the club
I've been riding with NYCC for about five years, with a year off for an aging knee. As a volunteer I have:
- Helped plan the Escape New York 2025 routes (Strava/RWGPS) and was bike mechanic at the Piermont stop
- Set up login for the new volunteer rewards site and got it running on NYCC's domain
- Built eny.nycc.org for Escape New York 2026
- Reviewed the new site's code two weeks before launch and found seven critical flaws any paying member could exploit. They were fixed before launch
- Built a free alternative rides app: ten years of club ride history, train times for your route, Strava pace. Try it at demo.nyc-rides.bike
- Submitted the motion to create a D-Rides coordinator (passed unanimously)
- Submitted the motion to survey members on the new site (passed by a thin margin)
- Led the occasional ride
