Why I'm running
I'm Scott Weinstein, on the board of NYCC as Webmaster and I'm running for Technology Director for a single reason; after three years and $198,712* of the club's finances spent, four in ten surveyed members think the new website is a downgrade from the site it replaced.
And over those same years, fewer members have ridden with the club, for the second year running.
The site is much better now than when members took that survey, and that work deserves credit. But fixing it after launch doesn't answer for how the program was run. A small group ran it, and a voting majority of the board approved each request for more money. That isn't the standard directors owe members: members first, ahead of our own interests and ahead of loyalty to each other. The full record is here.
This is fixable. It's a problem of governance and leadership, not engineering or design. The club belongs to its members, all 3,000 or so of us. With the right people in place we can put behind the last few years of drift and improve the club by building public pages (to attract members) and a rides app we can all be proud of & enjoy using. Both need replacing. For the rides app I have something concrete and ready today, and the public pages we can fix after.
If that interests you, vote, and talk about it on rides.
Voting runs Oct 30 to 5pm Nov 10. Log in to the club's ride site and look for the voting banner.

* The first version of this email said $200,000. The club's own financial statements put developer and designer payments at $198,712 from 2023 through October 7, 2026, so I've corrected it down to that. Year by year: scottfornycc.site/what-it-cost.
